We recently interviewed Jon Stickley Trio, one of our headlining bands for Sunday in the Park ft. Tunes from the Tombs. Learn more about Sunday in the Park (happening at Oakland on September 24) and get your tickets here.

If your band could collaborate with one artist living or dead, who would it be and why?

Jerry Garcia. His creativity with chords and melody would so powerful to experience, not to mention his absolute beast mode guitar stylings. He is a huge inspiration.

What overall message do you hope to impart with your music?

Take risks, take chances, be yourself, and don’t listen to the haters. One love!

What does “Jon Stickley Trio” mean to you as a musical project?

This band represents everything I love about music, and humanity. It is an expression of every musical idea I’ve ever had, and I’m so proud of it.

How has your band’s sound developed over the years?

We’ve developed a lot of nuance and sensitivity to each other. I used to have a bit of an aggressive chip on my shoulder musically, but have mellowed a bit into a more intuitive, emotional musical style.

Where do y’all find inspiration?

I find inspiration from daily life. Which at the moment I am knee deep in fatherhood and my sons are my biggest inspiration. They blow my mind every day.

What is one piece of musical (or life) advice that you would give your younger selves?

To thine own self be true.
