What time is Illumine?

Entrance to Oakland Cemetery for Illumine 2019 begins at 7:00 p.m. Last entrance is at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday,  May 9 and Sunday, May 12 and at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11. Illumine ends one hour after last entry.

What if it rains?

Illumine is a rain or shine event, and tickets are non-refundable. In case of serious inclement weather forcing an evening to be canceled, ticket-holders will be notified about how to transfer their ticket to another evening.

Is Illumine a guided walking tour?

No, unlike Oakland Cemetery’s walking tours, Illumine is a self-guided experience throughout Oakland Cemetery’s Original Six Acres, Bell Tower Ridge, and Greenhouse Valley, including the Beaumont Allen Greenhouse. Attendees will receive a route map at the gate. The route will be illuminated, and visitors are asked to stay within the designated route.

Where should attendees park?

Limited parking is available in Oakland’s lots on Martin Luther King Dr. and Grant Street. These lots are cash only. Please consider other means of transportation including MARTA (the King Memorial station is a very short walk from the main gates of Oakland Cemetery), rideshare apps, or taxis.

Is Illumine family-friendly?

Absolutely. We encourage families and friends to experience Oakland Cemetery together.

Is Illumine pet-friendly?

With the exception of service animals, pets are not allowed at Illumine due to City of Atlanta ordinance.

Will tickets be available at the gate?

Limited tickets will be available at the gate each night except Saturday, which is sold out. Please have your advance tickets printed or available on your phone to speed-up your entry.

Does Oakland accept credit cards?
Yes. Oakland Cemetery accepts all major credit cards (and cash).

Can I bring food or drink into Illumine?

No outside food or beverages are permitted, but beverages and light snacks will be sold onsite.

What time does Oakland close to prepare for Illumine?

All visitors to the park are asked to exit by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, Friday, May 10, Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12 to allow Foundation staff to set-up for Illumine 2019. The park will also close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8 for pre-event rehearsals.

Who benefits from Illumine?

All proceeds from Illumine (and all of Historic Oakland Foundation’s tours, programs, and events) support Historic Oakland Foundation’s mission to preserve, restore, enhance, and share Oakland Cemetery in partnership with the City of Atlanta.
