Oakland resident Bishop Wesley John Gaines played a critical role in the growth and development of Atlanta, serving as a founder and early leader of several major landmark institutions, including Big Bethel A.M.E. and Morris Brown College. In this latest documentary production from Historic Oakland Foundation, we explore the life of Bishop Gaines and look at the impact and legacy of Morris Brown College—Georgia’s only HBCU to be founded exclusively by African Americans—as it enters into its next chapter.
All proceeds support the reaccreditation of Morris Brown College and Historic Oakland Foundation’s mission to preserve, restore, enhance, and share Oakland Cemetery in partnership with the City of Atlanta. Please consider making a donation.
