Spooky shopping at Oakland Cemetery

By Timothy Wright, Shop Manager

Oakland Cemetery’s Visitors Center & Museum Shop embraces the spirit of Halloween with a variety of new ornaments, books, and spooky accoutrements for the season.

Offerings include an array of glass skull ornaments ranging in design from brightly painted Day of the Dead sugar skulls to other skulls in differing sizes of shiny mercury glass, and life-like bone white. An assortment of hand-painted glass owls and whimsical moon ornaments grace the Halloween trees in the shop, waiting to be spirited away.

Find figurines for your haunted home, like our skeletal raven perched on a skull, our “Home from the Parade” masquerade teddy bear figures, and large skull boxes perfect for decadent sweets.

Fans of gothic whimsy will love the return of Edward Gorey books on our shelves, including his dark classic, The Gashlycrumb Tinies and the spectacular Dracula: A Toy Theatre

Fearsome fashionistas will love our wide selection of harrowing hats, headbands and frightening fascinators, scarves with skull motifs, pendants and lockets with elegantly macabre designs and Day of the Dead skull jewelry.

Check out a new line of fine silver rings by local jewelry designer Mary Boyle. Mary designs and creates her unique jewelry in her Decatur home studio and uses metalsmith and wire-work techniques in sterling silver, fine silver, 14K gold-filled, bronze and copper. Intrigued by visual and tactile contrasts, Mary mixes various metals and develops layers of texture in her jewelry pieces. The fine silver and Argentium premium sterling silver rings are individually fused, shaped, and hammered by hand and then taken to a high polish. Prices start at $25.00.

Indigo Bath & Body has created a range of handcrafted Halloween soaps especially for Oakland Cemetery. Available in three scents – Bitten, Twilight, and Wicked – these artisan soaps are made with a blend of essential oils, shea butter, and botanicals. Each bar retails for $6.99.
