‘Amas’ is a robust and reliable iris with a profusion of large flowers with falls of deep purple and rounded standards of a paler purple. Still one of the best for today’s gardens, ‘Amas’ was one of the most significant iris of its time. It was introduced to cultivation by Sir Michael Foster in 1885 from the town of Amasya in northern Turkey in the late 1800s and was used extensively in early iris breeding. Early season, 25”
