Title 1 Admission Scholarship
Aschool visit to this Victorian garden cemetery provides opportunities to start a dialogue about the historic past and create a space for learning outside the classroom. The Education at Oakland Title 1 Admission Scholarship covers admission costs for students and chaperones for guided tours at historic Oakland Cemetery. The scholarship is made possible through generous funding provided by the Zeist Foundation.
Terms and limitations: This scholarship covers the cost of guided tour tickets for students and chaperones. This scholarship does not provide funding for transportation or lunch.
Students: We are able to accommodate up to 120 students and 12 chaperones during a field trip. Schools can submit a separate application to bring additional students on a second day (maximum two applications per school).
Chaperones: One chaperone is required for every 10 students. Any additional adults beyond the required number of chaperones must purchase an adult tour ticket ($12).
Booking: The scholarship application must be submitted at least 6 weeks prior to the preferred tour date. A tour confirmation and arrival information (including parking instructions and meeting points) will be sent via email. The tour confirmation must be signed and returned to the Education Manager. Education staff will check in the day prior to the trip to confirm final details.
Transportation: Transportation must be secured at least one month before the field trip.
Date Changes and Cancellations: You must notify us by email at least one week in advance if you need to reschedule or cancel your tour. No-show schools will not be allowed to apply for future scholarships. If the forecast predicts inclement weather, the Education Manager will work with each group to reschedule for a later date.
Lunch: School groups are allowed to bring their lunches and eat on the grounds of Oakland Cemetery. Oakland Cemetery does not have any indoor dining facilities or outdoor tables, so lunch must be picnic-style. Historic Oakland Foundation cannot store any lunch bags during the guided tour.
