HOF Holds Ribbon-Cutting for African American Burial Grounds

On June 10, 2022, Historic Oakland Foundation and the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the restoration of Oakland Cemetery’s historic African American Burial Grounds.

Speakers for the event were Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, HOF Executive Director Richard Harker, Atlanta City Councilmember Liliana Bakhtiari, Deputy Parks Commissioner Alvin Dodson, former first lady of Atlanta Valerie Jackson, Morris Brown College President and HOF Board Member Kevin James. and Oakland Cemetery Sexton Sam Reed. Veronika Jackson and the Big Bethel A.M.E. Choir performed.
