Margaret Mitchell and Gone With the Wind
September 17, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am
FreeMargaret Mitchell didn’t know how much of an impact she would have on popular culture when her Civil War novel, Gone With the Wind, was published in 1936. The Pulitzer Prize-winning novel sold more than 1 million copies in its first six months of publication, has been published in 40+ languages, and was made into an Oscar-winning epic. This tour visits the gravesites of Margaret Mitchell, her husband John Marsh, Mitchell family members, and pioneers of Atlanta. Meet several real-life residents believed to inspire her novel’s characters, such as madam Belle Watling and Doctor Meade.
This tour starts at the Front Gate (main entrance at Oakland Avenue and MLK Jr. Drive) at 10:30 AM. Please arrive a few minutes early to check in at the volunteer desk inside the Visitor Center (across from the gate) before meeting at the Front Gate.
Spaces are limited, so we recommend purchasing your tickets in advance.
