Headstone Preservation Workshop
April 6 @ 8:30 am - 1:00 pm
Have you ever wanted to understand how to effectively care for a cemetery headstone or learn the correct techniques, tools, and methods for the preservation of small and medium-sized monuments and headstones?
Join Historic Oakland Foundation’s PRO (Preservation, Restoration, Operations) team for a half-day headstone preservation workshop on April 6. During this immersive, hands-on course, you will learn essential cemetery conservation skills including small tombstone leveling, re-setting multi-piece monuments, and proper cleaning techniques. You will leave with the knowledge, skills, and connections to better practice preservation on different types of cemetery headstones in a workshop taught by expert professionals.
Who is teaching the workshop?
Historic Oakland Foundation’s Preservation and Restoration team are experts in the field of historic cemetery hardscape restoration. Ashley Shares, Preservation Manager at HOF, has a Masters in Heritage Preservation from Georgia State University and, in addition to working at Oakland Cemetery, has conducted preservation, restoration, and maintenance work at dozens of cemeteries throughout Georgia and the Southeast. In addition to Shares’ expertise, you will learn from Sean Diaz, Michael Wetlauffer, and Chaunce Braun, who have technical knowledge and thousands of hours of real-world experience in cemetery hardscape preservation and restoration.
Who should attend?

This workshop will cater to attendees of all skill levels and will be equally accessible for novices and those who have some cemetery maintenance experience.
