Flashlight Tour: Women of Oakland
August 16 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Pioneers, risk-takers, trailblazers, and icons. These words describe some of the legendary ladies laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery. Hear their stories and celebrate their accomplishments during a sunset tour of Oakland. Choose between two tours – “Black Magnolias” or “Women of Oakland” – and enjoy an evening in the cemetery.
Black Magnolias: Explore the history, lives, and labors of Atlanta’s African American women. Carrie Steele Logan, Ollivette Eugenia Smith Allison (grave photo above), and the Rucker ladies are a few of the women you’ll learn about on this one-hour tour.
Women of Oakland: From Pulitizer Prize-winning author Margaret Mitchell to Selena Sloan Butler, founder of the first black parent-teacher association in the country, there are many famous females buried at Oakland. Join us for a one-hour tour exploring the lives of these legendary ladies.
HOF Members: $10
Your ticket includes a flashlight and a complimentary drink. The bar is open from 7:30 to 8:00, and the tour is 8:00-9:00.
Note: Not all areas of Historic Oakland Cemetery are wheelchair accessible. Please use your discretion when planning your tour visit and give us a call if you have questions about accessibility.
