Canceled: Capturing the Spirit of Oakland Tours
October 15 - November 1
We are sad to announce that we are canceling the Capturing the Spirit of Oakland Halloween tours for 2020.
For each of our big special events, we are required to get a special event permit from the City of Atlanta. Unfortunately, with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the City is not currently issuing event permits.
At checkout, you selected one of two options in case we had to cancel the tours: defer your ticket to Capturing the Spirit of Oakland 2021 or donate your ticket to the Foundation. Those of you who elected to “defer to 2021” will receive information via email next spring regarding getting your tickets for next year’s tours.
We are producing a “virtual” Capturing the Spirit of Oakland experience that will capture some of the atmosphere and experience that you would get by coming to Oakland. If you purchased tickets to Capturing the Spirit 2020, we’ll send you an email showing you how to access the film for free. If not, click the button below to learn more.
If you ordered a Capturing the Spirit of Oakland tee or hoodie, we will mail it to you.
What is Capturing the Spirit?
Capturing the Spirit of Oakland Halloween tours, an Atlanta Halloween tradition, enlighten rather than frighten. The tours bring to life the stories of some of the cemetery’s notable residents.
What if the event can’t be held due to COVID-19?
When purchasing tickets, you were asked to choose whether, in the event that Capturing the Spirit is canceled, you would prefer to defer your ticket until our 2021 Capturing the Spirit of Oakland event or donate your ticket to Historic Oakland Foundation. Please note that tickets are non-refundable. 2020 ticket holders will receive access to a virtual Capturing the Spirit of Oakland experience. Whether you chose to defer or donate your ticket, 2020 ticket holders will be given priority access in selecting tickets and time slots for 2021’s event.
