Author Talk: Akila McConnell

Tune in to Historic Oakland Cemetery’s Facebook page at 6 p.m. on June 9 for a virtual author talk with Akila McConnell, author of A Culinary History of Atlanta. McConnell will join us in conversation about the relationship between food and culture in Atlanta and share insight into the writing of A Culinary History.

As a special treat, attendees will receive 20% off copies of the book in Oakland’s online Museum Store through June 10.

Author Bio:
Akila McConnell is obsessed with sharing the story of Atlanta through its food. She is the owner of Unexpected Atlanta Tours & Stories, which includes Atlanta Food Walks and Atlanta History Tours, to help guests dig deeper into the city’s amazing food and powerful stories. They are a proud partner of Historic Oakland Foundation, and their Grant Park Past & Future Food Walk focuses on the culinary stories within Oakland Cemetery. An acclaimed food and travel writer, Akila was the food travel expert for and USA Today for four years and has written for Conde Nast Magazine and National Geographic Books. Her book, A Culinary History of Atlanta, was released in 2019. Akila’s superpower is her uncanny ability to always finish dessert.
