Charles Duncan Beard (1948-2024)
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Historic Oakland Foundation Board member Duncan Beard passed away on Saturday, August 31st.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend and our Board member Duncan Beard,” said Richard Harker, Executive Director of HOF. “Duncan‘s love and passion for Oakland was evident in every conversation and I am personally grateful for his consistent kindness and wisdom throughout his time on our Board. I will miss his voice, his laughter, his friendship, and his probing insights and I know I speak for all at Oakland in sending our love and best wishes to Ellen and their whole family at this profoundly difficult time.”
Duncan’s commitment to community was obvious and evident to all who knew him. In addition to serving on Oakland’s and other non-profit’s boards, Duncan’s deepest loyalty was to the transformative work of the Shepherd Center where he volunteered for decades and played a crucial role in shaping the vitally important organization.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 5 at 11:00 am in the Fellowship Hall of Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30305 with a reception afterwards at the Capital City Club in Brookhaven. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Shepherd Center, Caring Hands Fund at Presbyterian Homes, or the charity of your choice.
