An Update on the Oakland Bell Tower Rehabilitation

It’s hard to believe but we’ve reached the halfway point in the rehabilitation of the Oakland Bell Tower thanks to our excellent team including J.M. Wilkerson Construction and Smith Dalia Architects.

Things are starting to take shape! The most notable changes are the installation of the monumental staircase and the elevator shaft. We also have a new roof and are beginning to frame up walls and install new mechanical systems. Our team is exploring the best methods to restore historic elements like the building’s original windows in place, and our director of preservation, Ashley Shares, is working on sourcing marble tiles to replace those that are beyond repair on the porch and vault level floors.

We are beginning to get a real feel for the space, and we’re getting inspired as we think about opportunities for engaging interpretive displays and other ways for the public to experience the building, whether on the day-to-day or for a signature private event. The next three months will breathe new life into the building, and we look forward to sharing more updates.
